Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH) is a medical college cum hospital in Jorhat, Assam. This is the fourth medical college of the state, the foundation stone of which was laid by the then Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh on 25th August 2008. on 12th October 2009, the then Honourable Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, inaugurated the Hospital wing of the Jorhat Medical College, currently providing the healthcare needs of more than 1.2 milion population of the entire Jorhat district,the neighbouring districts of Golaghat, Sivasagar and Majuli as well as the patients of neighbouring states of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. JMCH is affiliated to Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. currently, the institution is headed by Prof. (Dr.) Ratna Kanta Talukdar, who is the Principal cum Chief Superintendent of JMCH.
The Department of Psychiatry,JMCH is headed by Prof.(Dr.) Kamala Deka. The department has OPD services and 30 bedded indoor ward, including a separate deaddiction ward. The Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) Scheme, under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE), coordinated by NDDTC, AIIMS, New Delhi is started in the Depart ment of Psychiatry,JMCH from 1st November, 2023. Infact, JMCH is the first medical college in Assam to incorporate this scheme. Under the ATF Scheme, we are providing various diagnostic services, treatment services, referral services and counselling services regarding various substance related addiction and comorbid health conditions to our patients.
