Ambedkar Nagar district is a district in the Ayodhya(Faizabad) division of Uttar Pradesh in India. This district was created on September 29, 1995 and was named in the memory of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, who worked for the upliftment of the deprived classes, women and other weaker sections of the society. Ambedkar Nagar district is located on the North-Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. It lies between 26o 09" N to 26o 40" N latitudes and 82o 12" E to 83o 05" E longitudes. It is bounded on the north by Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar districts, on the north-east by Gorakhpur district, on the south by Sultanpur district, on the west by Ayodhya (Faizabad) district and on the east by Azamgarh district. The total area of the district is 2350 sq. km. Its population is approx 2,397,888 and 1757 of the village. Akbarpur is also the birth place of Ram Manohar Lohia (1910-1967) and Dr. Ganesh Krishna Jaitley,a renowned freedom-fighter and a socialist political leader . This district has many historical places namely Sharwan Chetra 15 km away, Dargah Sharif at Kichauchha, Govind sahab fair or mela place and world famous/religious temples Sri Maryada Purushottam Bhagwan Shri Ram temple is only 59 km away from here and Shiv Baba 12 km away. Addiction treatment facility (OPD only), M.R.A. medical college Ambedkar Nagar run under the aegis of National action plan for drug demand reduction (NAPDDR) with support from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), Government of India and are nationally coordinated by NDDTC, AIIMS Delhi. The facility aims to provide services for patient using drugs and alcohol and improve functioning within their family. Through this centre, the services provided are: pharmacological treatment, psychosocial intervention-support and counselling services. The medications are provided free of costs to the patients and expenditures are borne by the government of India under the scheme. To curb the usage of the drugs/ alcohol among the natives of district Ambedkar Nagar, and to provide continuity of care to its patients, the ATF Ambedkar Nagar is determined to help its patients in every possible ways.
